WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — The Dr. Pepper Museum is gearing up to celebrate the Worldwide Day of Play, an initiative designed to encourage children to unplug from screens and engage in outdoor activities. This marks the museum's first participation in the event, which has been a staple in children's programming for over 20 years. Joanna Able, a museum employee who fondly recalls the day as a child, expressed her excitement for the upcoming activities. "I would watch TV and see that things were shutting down on Nickelodeon, but I never saw anyone actually doing anything for it. It's really cool that we have events celebrating this," she said. Autumn Outlaw, the museum's Director of Marketing and Development, emphasized the importance of community engagement. "We want to ensure we’re part of this initiative. Being a museum about a soft drink, it’s essential to encourage people to be active and connect with their community. We’re really excited for Waco to enjoy something different," Outlaw stated. Tomorrow’s celebration will feature a variety of activities, including a free yoga session and a "Liquid Labs Extravaganza" in the courtyard, as well as arts and crafts on the museum’s third floor. Resident Lexia Teran, a frequent visitor, believes the events will be enjoyable for children, "I think tomorrow's activities will be really fun for the kids and a great way for them to interact." Looking ahead, the Dr Pepper Museum plans to expand its participation next year, aiming for an even bigger celebration to engage the community.
