Authorities are investigating after at least one San Diego County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a shooting on a National City thoroughfare early Friday afternoon, officials said. A deputy was injured in the incident but is expected to be OK, a sheriff’s official said. It’s not clear how the deputy was injured, or if anyone was struck by gunfire or otherwise injured. Details are sparse. An official said the encounter happened just before 1:40 p.m. on Mile of Cars Way near Hoover Avenue, just east of Interstate 5. NBC San Diego showed footage of deputies searching through a white four-door sedan at the location. National City police issued an advisory asking people to avoid the area, citing the investigation and road closure. San Diego police will be picking up the investigation into the shooting, as per a countywide protocol designed to prevent law enforcement agencies from investigating themselves.
