CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A single touch on a device is all it takes to activate a lockdown at a Clovis Unified school. Clovis Unified School District explained to YourCentralValley.com that any safety team member can activate a lockdown with one touch on their cell phone. District officials say the lockdown alert also notifies law enforcement and the school district's entire response team. Recent school shooting threats seen around the Central Valley, why? According to the school district, the technology behind it is called Catapult, which Clovis Unified says is affiliated with Centegix: the system that received national attention following the deadly school shooting in a Georgia high school earlier this month. The school used the alert system in the Sept. 4 shooting, which automatically brought authorities to the scene. As well as alerting law enforcement, the Catapult system messages all staff and activates a system to account for all staff and students. Clovis Unified officials add that they are also working on installing automatic locks to all exterior doors on campus so they can be locked simultaneously in an emergency.
