SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Civil rights icon Dolores Huerta has cast her weight behind incumbent Mayor London Breed's bid for reelection. On Friday, the influential Latino activist officially endorsed Breed in the city's mayoral race. "I am proud to endorse Mayor London Breed's re-election to continue serving the residents and communities that I care so deeply about," said Huerta in a statement. "She demonstrated her leadership during the pandemic by not only delivering one of the nation's strongest public health responses but also providing critical resources to support those most impacted by COVID-19 such as low-income Latino essential workers." Huerta founded United Farm Workers alongside Cesar Chavez in the early 1960s and is currently the president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then President Barack Obama in 2012. Green Day banned from 2 Vegas stations after trashing city on stage "I'm honored to receive the support and endorsement of Dolores Huerta," said Breed in a statement. "She is a living legend, an icon of the Latino community, who has spent her life advocating for social justice, labor rights, and equality. I especially appreciate her lifelong commitment to empowering workers and underrepresented communities." Breed is facing what looks like a tough reelection campaign in a crowded field. A recent KRON4.com poll showed her running almost neck-and-neck with former interim mayor Mark Farrell.
