Flood, flash flood warnings issued for several Central Virginia areas

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Both flood and flash flood warnings have been issued for several Central Virginia counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
A flood warning means that flooding is expected in a given area due to excessive rainfall. A flash flood warning is similar, but indicates that the flooding will happen far more quickly.
The following Central Virginia areas are under a flash flood warning until around 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27:
Greensville County
The following Central Virginia areas are under a flash flood warning until 7:15 p.m. on Friday:
Charles City County
Prince George County
Sussex County
The following Central Virginia areas are under a flood warning until around 7 p.m. on Friday:
Albemarle County
Greene County
Additionally, these coastal areas are under a separate coastal flood warning until 4 a.m. Saturday:
Essex County
Northumberland County
Richmond County
The NWS advises those in the areas listed above to take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
If travel is required, drivers are advised not to navigate around barricades or through water of unknown depth -- "Turn around, don't drown."
