PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Brendan Ames brother Michael was murdered in a multi-family home on Westminster Street in Providence.
“We lost our youngest brother, we are all hurting,” he said. “This is not a good thing.”
57-year-old Michael Ames was the victim in the city’s 10th homicide in 2024.
“He was the baby of the family, four or five years younger than the rest of us,” his brother said. “He had been in Providence since he was in his early 20s. For the longest time I could never get in contact with him. He had lived in Woonsocket and he had lived in Providence.”
Brendan said his brother struggled with addiction for years.
“Michael was a functional drug addict,” he said. “He always worked, he was very talented at what he did, but it was his lifestyle, his choice of lifestyle.”
According to Chief Oscar Perez, Ames was found dead with traumatic injuries.
Michael Shaw, the man accused of murdering Ames, was charged with murder.
Shaw did not enter a plea in court Thursday and was held without bail.
