PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Four Rhode Island men are accused of stealing millions of dollars' worth of high-end vehicles from dealerships across several northeastern states, according to U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha. Belter Giron, 28, of North Providence, Alberto Rivera, 24, of Cranston, Richard Robinson, 32, and Onix Eduardo, 27, both of Providence, are charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property. Court documents allege the men burglarized a dozen dealerships between February and July of last year, stealing approximately 120 vehicles valued at around $5 million. The stolen cars included high-end brands like Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Land Rover. To date, prosecutors said 41 vehicles and 11 dirt bikes out of the near-120 allegedly stolen by the four men have been recovered. In addition, 19 Husqvarna motorcycles were stolen from a Pennsylvania dealership and 11 dirt bikes were taken from a Massachusetts dealership. The dirt bikes were allegedly stored at Giron’s home in North Providence. To date, law enforcement has recovered 41 vehicles and the 11 dirt bikes allegedly stolen by the four men. Report: MA, CT among top states seeing increase in car thefts According to the indictment, the group researched dealerships before traveling from Rhode Island to break into businesses in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. The thefts, usually carried out in the early morning hours, involved stealing keys and driving the stolen vehicles back to Rhode Island. The men were reportedly interrupted by police multiple times, during which they drove recklessly and used their phones to coordinate escapes, the indictment states. After the thefts, they allegedly attempted to sell the stolen vehicles. Surveillance footage obtained by Providence police allegedly shows Giron and Robinson covering a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in a Providence driveway on March 13, 2023. The SUV, valued at $96,000, was one of four vehicles stolen from a New Hampshire dealership the previous day. On July 10, 2023, at least one of the suspects allegedly stole two vehicles from a Somerset dealership, including a 2021 Dodge Ram TRX. The following day, a Westport dealership reported the theft of seven vehicles, titles, key fobs, and license plates, including a BMW 428xi recovered in Providence on July 12 and a Mercedes C-Class found in the Bronx, New York. The stolen TRX was also located in the Bronx on July 14, 2023. Giron is accused of selecting the dealerships to target, assembling the crews and brokering the sale of some stolen vehicles. He was arrested on Aug. 2, 2023, and his phone reportedly showed multiple web searches related to stolen vehicles and travel to a New York parking garage near where the TRX was found. In one case, a Range Rover stolen from New Hampshire on March 12, 2023, was found nearly two months later in a shipping container at a New Jersey dock, destined for Africa, according to the affidavit. Rivera and Giron first appeared in federal court in July, while Robinson appeared in August and Eduardo faced a U.S. Magistrate in September. Giron and Eduardo are currently in federal custody, while Rivera was returned to the ACI and Robinson was released on bond. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
