TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Thibodaux man was arrested in connection with a child sex crimes investigation on Wednesday.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies with the patrol division began responding to a report of alleged sexual abuse involving several juvenile boys at a Terrebonne Parish home.
Additional arrests made in fatal Labor Day weekend shooting
Deputies spoke with the victims' family members and identified the suspect as a close family friend, 63-year-old Wayne Bennett. Victims reportedly described multiple places both inside and outside of Terrebonne Parish where the abuse allegedly happened, including another state.

A joint effort to investigate the allegations then began and involved the TPSO Special Victims Unit, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, the Louisiana State Police and Homeland Security Investigations.
The SVU documented several victims, identified locations in Terrebonne Parish where the abuse reportedly happened and allegedly confirmed the reports of sexual abuse between Bennett and the victims. Warrants were then obtained for Bennett's arrest, and he was later found and taken into custody by Federal Authorities at an address in Florida on Sept. 23.
Bennett was then extradited from Florida to Terrebonne Parish, where he was arrested on Sept. 25. He is now facing charges of first-degree rape, third-degree rape, five counts of trafficking of children for sexual purposes and three counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Bennett was jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and is being held on a $700,000 bond.
SVU detectives reportedly interviewed Bennett, and he allegedly confessed to the sexual abuse of the known victims. Bennett also allegedly gave investigative information to authorities regarding abuse going back multiple decades, which could help detectives to identify more victims.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities say that the identification of more victims and the raising of more charges against Bennett "seem to be highly likely." Further details will be released as they become available.
