MUNCIE, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was arrested after he allegedly used a stolen Jeep to steal a television in Muncie. Court documents released Friday indicate officers were called to the 3000 block of North Linden Street on a report of burglary. When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with area residents who indicated they heard a loud banging on the door of their neighbor's home. The individuals police spoke with said they heard what sounded like a door being kicked down. They then claimed to have seen a man with a fade-type haircut wearing an orange shirt, dark-colored joggers and black shoes walking from the area with a TV. Witnesses told police the man then got into a silver Jeep bearing a front plate that said "Trump" and left the area. Police immediately searched the neighborhood for the car, but they weren't initially able to locate it. According to court records, police observed a broken entry door frame and a bedroom door that had been busted off the hinges when they examined the scene of the alleged crime. Law enforcement also reported that the residence's living room TV appeared to be missing. While police were working on the stolen TV case, they were notified about a stolen vehicle investigation that involved a Jeep that matched the description of the one the alleged TV thief used to flee the scene. Court documents indicate police ultimately located the Jeep at an apartment building in the 3700 block of North Tillotson Avenue in Muncie. When they found the car, police saw a man get out of the driver's seat and flee the area on foot. Police reported that the suspect jumped a fence and discarded his clothing. When the suspect was apprehended, he was shirtless, wearing black shorts and black Nike shoes with silver accents on the laces. Police walked the path they believed the suspect had run in and found black pants, black and green pajama pants, a long-sleeved black shirt, keys to a Jeep and a glass smoking device. When they searched the suspect's person, officers found a substance believed to be marijuana. Court records show that investigators also searched the Jeep after they apprehended the suspect. In the Jeep, police found a TV and food from Pizza King. Officers continued their investigation at the Pizza King, where they learned the suspect had previously visited the restaurant to order food. Police have officially identified the suspect as 33-year-old Dijoun Lamar Sims. He has been preliminarily charged with burglary (Level 4 Felony), auto theft (Level 6 Felony), resisting law enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor), possession of marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor) and possession of paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor). If Sims is convicted of burglary, he could face 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
