PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — The Piedmont saw its worst weather mid-morning Friday with gusts to over 40 mph and more locally heavy rainfall. Most had 1-2 inches from Helene overnight into today, with few pockets seeing more. Total rainfall over the past few days was generally 2-4 inches across the Triad with a few spots getting over 6 inches. It was much worse over our western counties with nearly a half foot in the foothills and more than a foot in the mountains with flooding issues. Helene is moving away now into Tennessee and then Kentucky. It is also weakening. Our weather will continue to improve. Skies will be clearing for us through this evening and overnight will become mostly clear with a low near 62. Saturday will be nice with sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs near 80. There is a tiny 15% chance of a shower. Saturday night will be partly cloudy and 65. Sunday will be pretty good, partly cloudy with a 35% chance for a shower or thunderstorm with highs near 80. Early next week, our weather will continue to improve. Monday will be partly sunny with a high around 79. There is a 20% chance of a shower. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high around 79. Wednesday will be mostly sunny and reach 77.  Lows remain in the mid-60s. A turn to cooler nights starts on Thursday. Sunny both Thursday and Friday with highs in the low to mid-70s and lows in the lower 50s, some 40s in rural areas.
