EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Water says it will be working with City of Socorro officials after finding out that one of its properties had been infested with red flour beetles, the utility said in a press release on Friday, Sept. 27. Socorro: Working ‘diligently’ to combat red flour beetle The utility says it learned this past Thursday, Sept. 26, that one of its utility properties located on Socorro Road had been infested with red flour beetles. The utility will be working with agriculture experts to determine the best way to remove the beetles along with pecan hulls within the property. The utility says it began applying locally sourced pecan shells on the property several years ago in an effort to respond to community complaints about dust and weeds. The utility also says it does not believe its property was the original cause of the city-wide infestation as an August report from the Texas Department of Agriculture confirmed there was no beetle infestation. "The utility property is one of the many impacted areas throughout Socorro dealing with the issue, and we are committed to being part of the solution by taking action within EPWater property," EP Water said.
