(GUNNISON COUNTY, Colo.) — We Are Gunnison County and all week FOX21 has been highlighting all Gunnison County has to offer. On Friday, Sept. 27 FOX21 Mornings was joined by Dr. Emily McMahill, the Director of the Center of Rural Mountain Allied Health to talk about how Western Colorado University (WCU) prepares medical students for success. Dr. McMahill said faculty works closely with students, to help them explore career opportunities and help them through the process. WCU boasts an 85% placement rate over the last ten years. "We run the gambit right, so I think students are interested in everything and we help them pursue all those goals. So everything from medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine," said Dr. McMahill. "We have a student that just went to CSU Vet School this year. So we're excited to see people pursue all different career paths." According to Dr. McMahill, WCU works with Gunnison Valley Health on what is needed in healthcare and works to provide assistance with those needs.
