(GUNNISON COUNTY, Colo.) — All this week, FOX21 News has been highlighting Gunnison County and what it has to offer. On Friday, Sept. 27, FOX21 Mornings went live with the Mayor of Gunnison and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Gunnison to find out what makes Gunnison such a great place to work and live. Mayor Diego Plata said the biggest draw for Gunnison has been the clear mountain water, blue skies, and beautiful terrain that offers plenty of outdoor recreation to visitors. "Fishing, skiing, eventually mountain biking... with access to so many trails and so many outdoor public lands, it's a must," said Plata. Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Gunnison Marisela Ballesteros added that, since Gunnison is essentially an island to itself in the valley, the small town feel extends to City Council--some of whom were born in Gunnison. "Me personally, born and raised here in Gunnison, know a lot of the different people around here," said Ballesteros. Plata pointed out that having deep local connections working with numerous entities and organizations is how the local government works to improve the lives of everyone living and working in Gunnison.
