Flash Flood Imminent At Mountain Island Lake, Mandatory Evacuation Ordered

MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE – A flash flood is imminent at Mountain Island Lake, as Duke Energy will open the floodgates at Cowans Ford Dam at 5 p.m. Friday night.
Mandatory evacuation were ordered for residents on Mountain Island Lake as floodwaters continued to rise on throughout the day.
Residents in the area of Riverside Dr, Lake Dr, Riverhaven Dr and parts of Beagle Club Rd & Hart Rd near Mountain Island Lake are advised to listen to evacuation directives.
Officers are going door-to-door to notify residents of the danger from the rising waters.
The lake, rivers, and creeks’ water level will rise significantly. All of Mount Holly is expected to be affected.
Residents need to prepare to evacuate immediately.
Shelter is being provided at the Tuckaseegee Rec Center at 4820 Tuckaseegee Road.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
* Caution is advised anywhere near the Catawba River from Cowans Ford Dam to the Lake Wylie inlet.
* Please stay weather aware and monitor lake levels and Duke Energy projections closely for any changes.
