BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There’s a new way to paint athletic fields hands-free. The company, Turf Tank, has the first-ever line-marking robot. This mobile device can paint athletic fields, like football, baseball and soccer. The GPS-guided robot paints lines, letters and numbers in about 3.5 hours. A spokesperson for the company says this method saves time, money and it’s more accurate. “It takes away a ton of man hours, but also gives cleaner lines. The paint usage is decreased, but just an overall cleaner unit," said RaHarold Lawson, director of park operations at BREC. Turf Tank has robots painting fields nearby, including LSU, Baton Rouge parks and high schools, like U-High, Albany, Springfield, and Slaughter. I mean, it makes absolute sense because those coaches are not only coaches, but they're teachers and it's their job to paint the field. So, if I could take one thing off their plate, it's a no-brainer," said Hunter Pratt, Turf Tank regional territory manager. The company says they’ve deployed over 3,000 robots across the nation. Lawson says although many people may be concerned that robots are replacing human jobs, he says it's not. Instead, it makes the task at hand more efficient allowing people to do other things. "It takes away the enormity of having a bunch of people on one job facility doing it, but it still takes program and time, things of that nature," said Lawson. Close Thanks for signing up!
