BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The U.S. Marshals Service said they have arrested almost 200 violent fugitives in Baton Rouge who are accused of using firearms for crimes or violence. According to a news release, suspects were arrested during a high-impact fugitive apprehension initiative called Operation North Star FY 2024, which began in May and ended in September. It targeted violent offenders and fugitives in 10 cities. "In the Baton Rouge area, ONS FY24 investigators arrested 197 fugitives, including 34 for homicide, 25 for forcible sexual assault, 9 for robbery, 58 for aggravated assault and 14 for firearms violations," a news release said. "Local investigators seized 30 firearms and more than 5.99 kilograms of illegal narcotics." The U.S. Marshals Service noted four "significant arrests" in the news release, three of which were made in Baton Rouge. Aaron Michael Jones was arrested on May 20. He was wanted by the Baton Rouge Police Department. Jones is accused of home invasion and domestic abuse battery – child endangerment. Joel Johnson was arrested on Aug. 23. He was wanted by BRPD for charges including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and illegal use of weapons. Johnson was also wanted by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on a battery of a pregnant victim charge. Two faculty members arrested after safety sweep at school in St. Helena Parish Kendrick Miller was arrested on May 28 and was wanted by the Baton Rouge Police Department on charges of home invasion, simple battery, false imprisonment, an offender armed with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault. The US Marshals Service said Miller also had active arrest warrants through the Gonzales Police Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole and St. Gabriel Police Department on multiple charges. The Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force is made up of the U.S. Marshals Service, Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole, U.S. Border Patrol, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations.
