Thumbs up to alumni. An annual event during Homecoming is also one of the most anticipated — the Distinguished Alumni assembly. This year included 2002 graduate Jason Baskin and 1881 graduate Gertrude Skinner. This event once again reminds students they can do great things when they take hold of the opportunities placed before them. Thumbs up for being carried aloft. On Wednesday afternoon, a hot air balloon lifted off from a field next to Our House Senior Living, carrying with it residents Carole Dunfee and Dan Enfield as part of its legacy video program, that opens up the doors to bucket list items of its residents. It’s a great program that creates amazing experiences and acts as a reminder to live life. Thumbs up to relief. It’s worth lauding the Mower County Board of Commissioners approval of a forgivable lone program that will provide relief to LeRoy businesses affected by Highway 56 road construction in the community.  Delays in construction and the construction itself has stripped these businesses and livelihood, but with the relief provided by the county, we hope that it provides these businesses with an important step to maintaining until construction is finished. Thumbs up to remaining in LeRoy. LeRoy has established itself as a small community with big ideas and it’s going to prove that again with its first ever Fall Fest on Oct. 5, providing the community and those outside of the community a new opportunity for some fall fun.
