Willoughby Hills will be hosting three Fall District meetings next month as part of its October public meeting schedule. The meetings will take place in the O’Ryan room at the Community Center, 35400 Chardon Road, on Oct. 1, Oct. 8 and Oct. 14. All meetings will begin at 7 p.m. According to Clerk of Council Nicholas Aiello, the district meetings are ways in which members of the City Council are able to connect with residents to discuss the business of the city in a personal and informal setting. Topics such as road construction, city finances, upcoming events and ongoing projects will be reviewed during the meetings. Topics may vary depending on the district and residents are being encouraged to attend the session which is most convenient for them. These meetings will be led by district representatives, but attended by all council members, including city department heads who also will present departmental updates and information. Council President Mike Kline will lead District 1. District 2 will be led by Council Vice President Tanya Taylor Draper and District 3 will be led by Councilwoman Kathleen Sivo. Additionally, Police Chief Matthew Naegele and Road Superintendent Mark Grubiss are expected for the fall session. Attendance can vary, but there could be between 20 and 30 residents at each meeting in person, Aiello said. Others watch on Facebook Live. District meetings are held twice a year in the spring and fall in Willoughby Hills. “The objectives of these meetings are to maintain transparency and open communication with our residents,” Aiello said, noting these meetings are intended to encourage them to feel a part of the community by being well informed. The meetings also provide an opportunity for residents’ voices to be heard to ensure city government is meeting their needs, Aiello said. “We hope people come out and enjoy,” Aiello said. “Our council members greatly value the relationships they form with our residents. This is a means to create and foster such relationships.”
