NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man has been convicted of assaulting his girlfriend after punching the door window of a bar that cut him off, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
Dana Santos, 34, was convicted of assault and battery and malicious destruction of property and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in the county jail with 18 months to serve.
The incident occurred on June 16 at the Pour Farm Tavern on Purchase Street in New Bedford when Santos was cut off by the bartender.
Santos then threatened to shoot the owner and the bartender and was removed from the bar by the bartender and patrons.
He continued to threaten to shoot them on the way out.
At this point, the owner locked the door to the bar and Santos punched it, breaking the glass.
Santos’ girlfriend attempted to calm him down, and he struck her in the head and pushed her head into the broken glass door, resulting in a large laceration to her head.
Santos has a 13-page criminal record, including time served for illegally possessing a firearm, trafficking cocaine and violating restraining orders.
