WEBSTER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man was arrested by Webster police after he attempted to cash fraudulent checks and engaged police on a foot pursuit.  According to officials, police were called around 4 p.m. on Wednesday to Webster Five Savings Bank on Thompson Road for a report of a man inside attempting to cash a fraudulent check. While responding, officers learned the man’s name was Shamiel Perry, who had several warrants for his arrest. As officers continued to arrive to the bank, one officer noticed Perry walking away from the bank towards the Mobil gas station. The officer attempted to stop Perry, who began allegedly running away on foot. Perry allegedly ran through multiple businesses and ended up behind a realty building on Thompson Road. According to police, once Officers were able to catch up to him, a brief struggle ensued on the ground as he was attempting to put his hands under his waist to avoid being handcuffed.   He was finally taken into custody by police.  The investigation revealed that Perry attempted to cash a check that was made out to him by a business in the amount of $2,845.89.  According to one of the bank employees, who was familiar with the company, knew this was not normal for them as they never usually made checks out to individual persons. Additionally, the bank employee allegedly spoke with the business and confirmed they did not issue a check to Perry nor did they know who he was. Perry was arrested on charges of uttering a false check, forgery of a check, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct. Perry was found to have two warrants for his arrest out of Seekonk and Southborough, both of which were for uttering a false check. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
