Man involved in fatal I664 crash pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - The man involved in a fatal crash on I-664 in February pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Thursday morning.
One dead, another charged in connection to I-664 crash
According to officials, on Feb. 19, 2024, 18-year-old Elvis Cruz was traveling southbound on I-664 near South Military Highway when he made contact with 19-year-old Lauryn Leonard's vehicle, causing both drivers to lose control and strike the guardrail.
Police said Leonard died upon impact, and that Cruz was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Cruz was later charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, fail to maintain proper control causing death, not having a valid driver's license, not having a valid inspection and not having proof of insurance.
Cruz is due back in court on Jan. 13 for his pre-sentence report.
