NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - The tropics are giving us no down time between Helene and this next area of potential development. The NHC is increasing their chance for some development of a low in the western Caribbean by next week. Movement into the Gulf of Mexico late next week would then be expected. As expected - being nearly 2 weeks out from potential landfall - models are ranging greatly with the data outputs. Not a great concern to us YET, but I strongly recommend keeping our eyes on this one. Both I and J have already been taken by named storms in the Atlantic basin. Hurricane Isaac and tropical storm Joyce have formed. NOT expected to impact the U.S. Next names on the list are Kirk and Leslie... there is another area of potential development that may form before the one in the Caribbean. It is a race between the two storms to see who clinches "Kirk". Some models are placing this storm's landfall on the far eastern end of Louisiana, others are sending it to Florida, others show neither one of those scenarios. Like Helene, variances in the forecast will become smaller with time. Particularly, once the closed low forms.
