Overland Park police investigate arson, shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Overland Park police are investigating after they say a homeowner shot at a suspected arsonist before daybreak on Friday.
OPPD says this happened around 3:50 a.m. near W. 158th Terrace and Woodson where the homeowner became suspicious after seeing someone in a white compact car park in front of their house on Outlook Street.
Police say whoever was in the car was wearing a mask and walked toward the backyard of a neighboring house, and the homeowner who reported the incident heard glass break and saw flames coming from that house.

The homeowner told police they saw the suspect running back toward the car, pointed a gun at them and told them to stop. The suspect didn't stop and drove away from the scene, the homeowner shot several rounds at the car.
Investigators don't know if the suspect was hit, and don't have a further description of them at present.
The Overland Park Fire Department responded and put out the fire. Two adults and two children inside the house weren't hurt.
