(CBS/AP) A man and his dog were saved from the stormy seas during Hurricane Helene off Sanibel Island, Florida, on September 26, after the sailboat they were in became disabled. The US Coast Guard said both the man and his dog were airlifted after the boat started taking on water. The storm made landfall late Thursday with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph (225 kph) in the rural Big Bend area, home to fishing villages and vacation hideaways where Florida’s Panhandle and peninsula meet.
