LIGONIER, Ind. (WANE) A driver who police say led them on a high speed chase in LaGrange County earlier this month that resulted in a crash that killed a passenger in another vehicle is now facing multiple felony charges according to a press release from Indiana State Police. The chase began on the morning of September 14 when a trooper spotted a Mercedes going over 100 mph on U.S. 6 west of Ligonier. The trooper tried to stop the Mercedes and a chase began that took place on several roads on the outskirts of Ligonier. When the chase turned to head south on State Road 5 heading to Ligonier, the trooper ended the pursuit due to the danger to the public. A short time later, the Mercedes ignored a traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 6 and hit the back of an SUV that had just turned onto U.S. 33 from U.S. 6. The crash sent the SUV off the road and into a ditch on its side. The Mercedes then sideswiped a car going north before becoming disabled. The driver of the Mercedes, and lone occupant, identified as Ethan Azra, 23, of Cromwell suffered serious injuries in the crash. The passenger of the SUV was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition and the driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition. The two people in the sideswiped car suffered minor injuries. The passenger of the SUV died later that same day. He's been identified as Justin Yoder, 37, of Goshen, Indiana. On Thursday, September 26, troopers arrested Aza at his home in Cromwell the completed investigation led to an arrest warrant issued by Noble County Circuit Court. Aza is being held without bond on the following charges: Resisting Law Enforcement w/Vehicle, Causing Death, Level 3 Felony Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death (BAC .08 or more), Level 4 Felony OWI Causing Serious Bodily Injury (BAC .08 or more) Level 4 Felony Resisting Law Enforcement w/Vehicle Causing Serious Injury, Level 5 Felony (2 counts) Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Bodily Injury, Level 6 Felony Operating a Vehicle Without Ever Having Received a License (Prior), Level A Misdemeanor
