Tracking Helene: The Pinpoint Weather 12 Team is tracking Helene which is expected to make landfall around the Big Bend of Florida tonight as a Category 3 or 4 storm, bringing a catastrophic storm surge, destructive winds and flooding rains. Good afternoon! We're going to be seeing showers around for the rest of today, but it won't be raining the entire time. We'll dry out over the weekend. We're also tracking Helene, which is expected to form into a Category 3 or 4 storm before making landfall around the Big Bend of Florida tonight. More on Helene below. Hour by Hour // A close look at the upcoming conditions » This afternoon showers should be mostly on the light side. The area with the best chance for showers will be inland. After rain chances spike during the afternoon, they'll drop a bit for the evening...then shower chances go back up overnight. Winds will be from the south 5-12mph with gusts to 20mph. | | BEACH AND BOATING FORECASTS TONIGHT Showers and maybe a t'storm overnight as a cold front works across the area. Lows will bein the upper 50s to lower 60s late tonight. Winds will shift into the northwest after 2AM. TOMORROW The showers will be gone by dawn, but clouds may be slow to clear. In fact, we're expecting a blend of high clouds and sun during the afternoon. It'll be mild and dry Friday with highs in the low to mid 70s. LOOKING AHEAD Clouds will mix with sunshine on Saturday....we should be dry. TROPICS Helene strengthened a little bit more this morning. It's not a Category 2 storm with winds of 100mph Rapid intensification is expected today...perhaps to a major hurricane by early afternoon with winds of at least 111mph. Landfall is expected somewhere around the Big Bend of Florida, perhaps as strong as a Category 4 storm. The impacts will be numerous throughout the state of Florida and even into Georgia. Damaging winds, flooding rains, isolated tornadoes and a dangerous storm surge.
