Man accused of impersonating police officer, hitting potential burglary suspect with gun arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
James Bell Jr., 51, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with aggravated battery and false impersonation of a police officer.
On Sept. 6, Bell apprehended a potential burglary suspect who was trying to steal from a school in the 5800 block of Packard Street, according to Baton Rouge police.
The burglary suspect accused Bell of hitting him in the head with a gun. Police said Bell also identified himself to BRPD as being a reserve law enforcement officer with a local law enforcement agency.

According to police, detectives believe Bell hit the suspect and also learned he was not an active reserve police officer. This is an ongoing investigation.
