Matt Kartozian-Imagn Images Jack Fox was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a HUGE performance against the Cardinals. Detroit Lions punter Jack Fox has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his dominant performance against the Arizona Cardinals. On Sunday, Fox pinned three of his five punts inside the 10-yard line, one additional punt inside the 20-yard line, and that last punt? Oh, just a 68-yard blast that went into the end zone—but a Cardinals penalty set them up at the 10-yard line anyway. “I don’t know how you play any better than Fox did as a punter,” coach Dan Campbell said Monday. Five punts, first one, touchback, 68 yards and there’s a penalty on it so they start at the 10. Then he has a 61-yarder, they start at the 2-yard line.” This is the first time Fox has ever won the award, and he’s the first Lions punter to win Special Teams Player of the Week since Sam Martin in 2016. Jalen Reeves-Maybin was the last Lions non-punter to win the award after making four special teams tackles in a game last year. Fox has always been one of the most underappreciated players on the Lions team, and his fifth season with the Lions is already off to a phenomenal start: Among all @NFL punters this season, @Lions P @MrJackFox ranks:- 1st in % of punts pinned I-10 (36.4%)- 1st in return yards allowed (0)- t-1st in punts returned (1)- t-1st in punts pinned I-10 (4)- 2nd in % of punts pinned I-20 (72.7%)- t-4th in punts pinned I-20 (8) pic.twitter.com/0fSZVjQ2ol— Detroit Lions PR (@LionsPR) September 24, 2024 Not included in those stats above? His 17-yard pass on a fake punt in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For his career, Fox is now 4-of-5 for 61 yards and a 117.5 passer rating. How do you end an article about a punter award?
