EDINBURGH, Ind. – Hundreds of Indiana National Guard members will say goodbye to loved ones Wednesday as they prepare for deployment to Kuwait.
Approximately 600 soldiers with the 38th Infantry Division will train in Texas for about a month before leaving for the Middle East.
Gov. Eric. Holcomb, Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles, the adjutant general, and Maj. Gen. Dan Degelow, the division's commanding general, are scheduled to speak during a 1 p.m. departure ceremony at Camp Atterbury’s North Barracks Complex.
Family, friends and Hoosiers will attend the ceremony.
The National Guard members will train at Fort Cavasos in Texas for about a month before being deployed overseas.
They’ll support Operation Spartan Shield, which the military describes as an “operation to strengthen defense relationships and build partner capacity through leader engagements, multinational exercises and response planning.”
