WASHINGTON (DC News Now) –- One year after her daughter’s murder, Linda Tates said she still carries the weight of her death with her every day. “I’m just mad, angry. I just walk around carrying a load of hurt. It’s an indescribable feeling that I have,” said Tates. Her daughter, 40-year-old Tangia Tates-Littles, was shot to death on Sept. 25, 2023. One year later, no arrests have been made in the case. “I pray every day, every night that I get a call from the Metropolitan Police or the detectives telling me they have found the person who murdered my daughter so she can have justice, and I can have closure,” said her mother. Mother pleads for answers more than five months after her daughter’s murder According to Tates, her daughter was leaving their home on Finch Street SE at around 11:44 p.m., when someone started shooting. Tates ran outside to find her daughter bleeding in the street. She laid on top of her to try and stop the bleeding. “Every day I go to work in the morning, and I can just see it while I’m driving. I just have this vision of the night of that incident. It’s going to be a long while before this vision goes away,” she said. The Metropolitan Police Department declined to speak to DC News Now, as this is an ongoing and open investigation. But, at the time of the homicide, there was a lookout for two men. In a statement, a spokesperson for the department said, “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of Tangia Tates-Little one year after her senseless killing. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch continue to investigate this case.” “No one deserves this, no one should deserve to die like the way she did,” said Tates. “I’m just so upset. Just please come forward." Virginia Task Force 1 heads to Florida to help rescue efforts ahead of Helene Tates is begging anyone who knows anything to speak up. “They took her away from her sister, her sister who loves her and adores her. They took her away from me, that’s my baby. She was not only my daughter, she was my best friend,” she said. Tangia also leaves behind a teenage daughter, who is now 16 years old. “She needs her mom. She’s struggling, she’s really struggling,” said Tates.                           Tangia’s family describes her as a loving and respectful person. They said she worked at a homeless shelter and loved to help others. Her mother affectionately called her “girly” and remembers Tangia as a young child who loved dressing up. Tates said until she can understand the ‘why’ behind her daughter’s death, she’ll never find closure. “Anything. If you know something, say something. You may think it’s not important, but it may be important to this case. Please call and share your information. I’m begging the public, please help me,” she said. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. You can call 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
