LOS ANGELES (KGPE) - An intervention specialist from a Fresno elementary school will be on the daytime Emmy Award-nominated talk series "The Jennifer Hudson Show," hosted by Jennifer Hudson on Wednesday. According to the show's website, the new season premiered on Sept. 16 and the show features guest celebrities, viral sensations, music and community heroes. Officials with the show told YourCentralValley.com that intervention specialist Carey Knox, from Turner Elementary in Fresno, received a visit from some of his students and a donation of $10,000 from Shakey's Cuts for Kids during his visit. The show says that Knox made headlines for giving free haircuts to his students during their lunch break. Show officials say that through his work, he focuses on the students' social-emotional learning and noticed that one of his fifth graders was struggling. After learning his student never received a haircut, he asked the student's parents if he could do it for free. The show says Knox noticed that the student's demeanor was instantly uplifted. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” Episode 3014, Season 3 Photo credit: Chris Haston/WBTV“The Jennifer Hudson Show” Episode 3014, Season 3 Photo credit: Chris Haston/WBTV“The Jennifer Hudson Show” Episode 3014, Season 3 Photo credit: Chris Haston/WBTV According to the show, Knox has given over 50 haircuts in the past few months and uses the students' time in the chair to bond with them, help build their confidence and make a positive impact in their lives. "Knowing first-hand what it’s like to grow up in a family that can't afford haircuts, Carey hopes his story inspires others to help in their own communities," the show said about Knox. The show is on CBS47 and is broadcast at 3 p.m. on weekdays.
