PRINCETON – Phoebe Thielmann has experienced it all during her time at the Hun School playing field hockey. From the timid freshman, to the celebration that came when she played a key role in the Raiders winning the final Mercer County Tournament, and to this her season as a leader and role model for a young team. “I was terrified freshman year as I was the only one from my class on the field,’’ recalled Thielmann, after Hun defeated Princeton Day 1-0 on an overcast Tuesday on the Panthers field. “Then winning the county tournament meant so much and it was a perfect end to that season,’’ added Thielmann. “Now, I want to help teach the younger players our game and teach them our values and do whatever I can. I really enjoy helping the girls on the field.’’ It was another senior, Abby Trawinski, who caged the game-winning goal as the Raiders (3-3) snapped a two game losing skid. PDS (3-3) made a push in the final period, but the Raiders defense held tough and earned the shutout. The Panthers are even younger than Hun and like the Raiders they’ll be working it get better each day. “The nice thing about a young team is they don’t have any preconceived notions,’’ said Princeton Day coach Heather Farlow. “So, they just go out there and play. They are just working hard and playing their hearts out.’’ Since those freshman days Thielmann has been playing her heart out, too. Thielmann had a career season in 2023 when she tallied nine goals and added seven assists and she always seem to rise to the challenge in critical games. “Phoebe is a coach’s dream,’’ said Hun coach Tracey Arndt. “I’ve been lucky to have a great players to coach and she is right up there. She is so consistent and o poised and a competitor. She works hard no matter the situation and she raises everybody else up. She has a high standard for herself.’’ Thielmann, who is headed to Holy Cross next season for play field hockey. Former teammate Maya Zahlan is a freshman this season at Holy Cross. “It’s hard to accept it’s my last year,’’ said Thielmann. “These last four years went very, very fast. I just want t0 cherish every moment and take in every minute and enjoy it all.’’ From the terrified freshman to the senior leader, Thielmann wouldn’t change a thing. “These four years have been amazing and I have coach Arndt to honestly thank for that,’’ stated Thielmann. “She has been my rock since day one and she has been someone I can lean on no matter what season it is or what the situation.’’
