PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in downtown Providence on Tuesday in objection to Israel’s latest airstrikes in Lebanon. “What the U.S. Government continues to do is stand with Israel,” protester Loubna Qutami said. “Despite the endless murder and endless destruction that it continues to cause on the Palestinian people, and now on the people of Lebanon.” Brown University students marched down to Kennedy Plaza, continuing calls for divestment that exploded last spring amid an encampment on school grounds. “Our oppression that we face from the attorney general, senator, and the university itself proves that the student movement is winning,” one student said. Many protesters were adamant they were on the right side of history. “Jim Crow apartheid fell, the apartheid in South Africa fell, Nazi Germany fell,” Jair Perez said. “Israel will too fall.” One man showed up to Kennedy Plaza shouting at the protesters, saying he was Jewish and did not agree with their point of view.
