BOSTON (WWLP) - Governor Healey, joined by other administration officials, held a signing ceremony for a bill that helps Massachusetts compete for federal funds on Tuesday afternoon. This bill uses interest from the state's stabilization fund to pursue federal funds, without drawing any additional money from taxpayers or from the fund itself. This includes up to 750 million to pursue the aforementioned federal money, 12 million for tech assistance for municipalities and tribes, and 50 million for financial assistance for federal programs. The governor said the state has been able to take advantage of available funding from the Biden-Harris administration. "We viewed it as our responsibility and our opportunity to go out there and maximize Massachusetts' ability to bring home these dollars working with partners," said the governor at the bill signing. The Director of Federal Funds and Infrastructure, Quentin Palfrey, said Massachusetts is leading the way in creating public policy to held secure federal funding. "There will never be a better time to invest in infrastructure in Massachusetts," said Palfrey. "With today's first-in-the-nation federal funds bill, we're just getting started." The governor addressed the impact of her close ties with the Biden-Harris administration on the state's ability to secure funding, saying while she never passes up an opportunity to talk up Massachusetts, the credit goes to the members of her team who apply for the money. Governor Healey said she will continue to fight for federal funds for Massachusetts, regardless of who is in office come January.
