SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - For parents and caregivers of children, installing a car seat or booster can be frustrating.
According to AAA, nearly half of car seats are either not used or installed correctly. If you have concerns about your child's car seat and installation, you have an opportunity to get it checked out by certified experts.
A free child car seat check event is being held at Northgate Plaza located at 1985 Main Street in Springfield on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

State Representative Carlos Gonzalez is partnering with AAA Northeast, the Massachusetts Child Passenger Safety Program, and the Springfield Police Department in hosting the event.
"Safety is a top priority, and events like this help ensure that our children are secure while traveling in vehicles," said Representative Gonzalez. "As Chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security, I am dedicated to promoting initiatives that protect our communities, and I encourage all families to take advantage of this free service to safeguard their loved ones."
Spanish-speaking technicians will also be available to assist non-English-speaking families.
Massachusetts law requires that children riding in passenger motor vehicles must be in a federally approved child passenger restraint that is properly fastened and secured until they are 8 years old OR over 57 inches tall.
