Temporary traffic signal on New Kent Highway at I64 West postponed ‘until further notice’
Sep 24, 2024
NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The installation of a temporary traffic signal on New Kent Highway as part of the Interstate 64 Gap Segment A Widening project has been postponed "until further notice."
In late July, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that design-build contractor Shirley Contracting would install a temporary traffic signal on New Kent Highway at the I-64 westbound interchange in September.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the department said this installation would be postponed "until further notice."
This temporary traffic signal was described as a continuation of the I-64 Gap Segment A Widening project.
The project's goal is to widen about 10 miles of I-64 in New Kent County -- from just west of the Bottoms Bridge exit to just east of the New Kent Courthouse and Providence Forge exit -- from two lanes to three lanes in both directions.
No further information on the next steps for this project has been shared by the department at this time.
