GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The nonprofit DRIVE SMART Virginia is visiting Goochland High School this week with a simulator that hopes to highlight the dangers of distracted driving. According to a release, the organization will stop by Goochland High School on Thursday, Sept. 26 with its Distracted Driving Simulator. Students who participate will be put into an immersive virtual reality simulation that allows them to navigate realistic road scenarios and learn firsthand about how important it is to avoid distracted driving. ‘You’re not a duck’: DMV launches creative new campaign for Pedestrian Safety Month According to DRIVE SMART Virginia, this simulator program was developed after discovering that car crashes are one of the leading causes of death for teenagers in the United States. 72% of the students surveyed by the nonprofit said they would be less likely to drive while distracted after using the simulator.
