SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- It's been a warm and dry month for many in KELOLAND. Monday, I talked about the dry conditions, this time I'll talk about the heat. September has been a dry month across KELOLAND We can go on and on about summer weather continuing in September. How this month is the start of fall, average highs drop to near 70 by the end of the month, I can go on and on. Aside from that, here's how warm the days have been. This graphic shows the number of days when we hit 80 and warmer in September. A typical year gives ten days in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen while it's 13 in Pierre and 11 days in Rapid City. This month has been anything but typical as we're already above our average number of days, with the highest on this list at 19 days in Pierre. As we look at the most days of 80 plus degree heat, we're closing in on Aberdeen, Pierre and Rapid City, but won't have a chance in Sioux Falls as the most was 25 days in 1908. The dry ground this month has helped our warming, as it's easier to heat dry ground as compared to wet ground. And I don't foresee any rain coming anytime soon.
