LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture is celebrating the first anniversary of its Food as Health Alliance (FAHA) program. This initiative aims to integrate clinical and community research across agriculture, food, and health sectors to combat food insecurity and diet-related chronic diseases in Kentucky and beyond. Alison Gustafson, Director of FAHA, explained the practical benefits of the program, “People who experience food insecurity and also have conditions like hypertension or type 2 diabetes can participate in a grocery prescription card program. They receive funds each month to purchase healthy foods or they can opt for a meal kit designed to assist with managing their diabetes or hypertension.” The FAHA continues to foster innovative approaches to address health challenges through diet and community support.
