CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — Indiana State Police and investigators with the Connersville Police Department found five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a man's home on Sunday. According to a press release from CPD, officers were called to the 2000 block of Ohio Avenue in Connersville on a report of a single shot being fired into a unoccupied stationary vehicle. When police arrived at the scene, they found a car that appeared to have "damage consistent with a projectile traveling through (it)." After interviews with neighborhood residents, police determined the suspect was likely 49-year-old Israel King of Connersville. Police were aware of an ongoing domestic issue King had been involved in. CPD reported that it has responded to seven calls involving King in the month of September. During one of the incidents, King was arrested. When they identified King as a suspect in the case, police went to the home they believed he resided in. Upon their arrival, officers located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting on Ohio Avenue. CPD was subsequently granted a search warrant for the residence. Initially, King did not comply with law enforcement's orders. After what CPD described as a "short verbal exchange," King was taken into custody. Once officers were finally able to search the residence, they located what appeared to be five explosive devices. CPD then called ISP's explosive ordinance division for assistance. Police also reported that King removed the materials used to make the devices from the home. King has been preliminarily charged with manufacturing a destructive device, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief. Manufacturing a destructive device — a Level 5 Felony — is the most serious of the charges King faces. The maximum penalty for such a crime in Indiana is a six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
