(WGHP) -- Muggy conditions will continue to cover the Piedmont while we wait for Helene. Wednesday will be mild and humid with highs around 80 degrees. We could see a late-day shower or thunderstorm. The chance of rain is 30%. We'll see scattered showers on Thursday with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 40%. The National Hurricane Center is tracking the progress of Tropical Cyclone Helene. The forecast calls for Helene to be a hurricane on Wednesday with a projected landfall on Thursday evening across north Florida. On Thursday evening, the hurricane could have winds of 115 mph. The tropical system will race across Georgia and Tennessee and then dissipate over the Midwest on Saturday. On this projected path, the Piedmont will see heavy rain and gusty winds on Friday. Flash flooding is possible on Friday with highs in the upper 70s. On Saturday, the remnants of Helene will dissipate over Indiana. For the Piedmont, look for partly cloudy skies with highs near 80 degrees. The chance of rain is 25%. Clouds and showers will return on Sunday with highs in the middle 70s. The chance of rain is 40%. Scattered showers will linger into Monday and Tuesday with highs in the lower 70s. The chance of rain is 40%.
