Mexican national sentenced to five years in prison for drug trafficking, illegal firearm possession

(WFRV) - The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office announced via U.S. Attorney Gregory J. Haanstad for the Eastern District of Wisconsin that a Mexican national was sentenced to five years in prison for various charges.
According to the release, 41-year-old Jose Resendiz-Gomez pled guilty to the following charges:
Cocaine possession with intent to distribute
Firearm possession as a previously convicted felon
Two Wisconsin men arrested after K9 finds a large quantity of suspected heroin
Agents with the Manitowoc County Drug Task Force had arranged a cocaine purchase from Resendiz-Gomez in July 2023. According to the release, he was already a previously convicted felon with no lawful status in the United States.
He was arrested at a traffic stop a month later when he was returning from Illinois, with over 600 grams of cocaine ready to distribute in Manitowoc. A search warrant at his home revealed two pistols and 70 rounds of ammo.
Upon his sentence completion, he will face deportation to Mexico. No more details are available.
