NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - The New Haven Police Department says an incident at a high school that landed an officer in the emergency room Tuesday is being blown out of proportion on social media.
In the process of removing a student from New Haven Jr/Sr High School for being "disorderly," a school resource officer who has not been named was "battered," according to Police Chief James Krueger.
A Facebook post from New Haven police said the student was medically cleared and taken to the Allen County Juvenile Center for battery to a school resource officer and staff members.
Krueger said the officer was taken to the emergency room with minor injuries and will make a full recovery.
Just one student was involved in the altercation. Krueger emphasized the situation has been exaggerated with rumors on social media.
A statement from East Allen County Schools is the same message sent to families, which reads:
“A member of our bulldog family suffered a medical emergency during first period. EMS and New Haven Police responded to assist. This resulted in the building being placed on a “hold” for approximately 20 minutes. Our school day will resume as normal for the remainder of the day. Thank you for your continued support”.
