BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Congressman Troy A. Carter and United States Senator Bill Cassidy announced over $206 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for flood mitigation. According to a press release, Carter announced FEMA's Flood Mitigation Assistance Program is giving $124,319,367 toward 13 projects throughout Louisiana. Cassidy announced roughly an additional $81 million towards 18 projects. FEMA's Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program is a program that gives states funding to use for projects that reduce or eliminate the risk of constant flood damage to buildings. “The Flood Mitigation Assistance Program has been a game-changer for Louisiana, providing critical funding to help communities build resilience against devastating flood disasters,” said Carter. “With nearly $125 million allocated for 13 projects in my district, including efforts to elevate 132 flood-prone homes in St. John the Baptist Parish, the program is making significant strides in protecting both lives and property. By focusing on disadvantaged communities and targeting localized flood risks, the FMA is not only reducing future flood damage but also ensuring that vulnerable Louisianians can continue to live where we call home.” “In the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, this funding from the infrastructure law is welcome relief to recover from past disasters and prepare for the future,” said Cassidy. “By having a seat at the table, Louisiana is punching far above its weight in the amount of money we are receiving to eliminate the risk of flooding.” Go to Louisiana state parks, historic sites for free using a library card in new pilot program The following projects were given funding by FEMA: City of Mandeville Mitigation Outreach $28,200 City of Mandeville Elevation Grant – Lakeshore Drive $195,725 Vermilion Parish Acquisition Elevation $501,565 Bossier City Drainage Master Plan Scoping $675,000 St. Charles Parish Norco Drainage Project Scoping $675,000 St. Charles Parish Elevation Project $720,926 Iberia Parish Resilient Elevations 835,760 Acadia Parish – Elevations $928,588 Rapides Area Planning Commission Resilient Mitigation – Elevations $981,964 Ascension Parish Climate Resilient Mitigation- Elevation of Severe Repetitive Loss/Repetitive Loss Properties- Priority No. 1 $1,083,772 Ascension Parish Climate Resilient Mitigation- Non-Severe Repetitive Loss- Repetitive Loss Properties- Priority No. 2 $1,689,895 Lafourche Basin Levee District Stormwater Master Plan $1,800,180 Jefferson Parish Elevation $1,803,675 Jefferson Parish Severe Repetitive Loss Mitigation Reconstruction $2,133,967 City of Slidell Residential Elevations $2,369,827 Tangipahoa Parish Resilient Elevations of Flood-prone Properties $2,402,162 Terrebonne Parish Resilient Elevations $2,406,855 City of Mandeville Elevation Grant – Lake Shore Drive $2,456,972 East Baton Rouge Parish Elevation and Acquisition Project $3,306,691 Calcasieu Elevation and Acquisition $3,725,560 Lafayette City Government Resilient Elevations $4,433,611 St. Tammany Parish Elevations $4,997,088 Draughan Creek Regional Detention Pond $5,701,592 Jefferson Parish Elevation $8,982,520 City of Central – Shoe Creek Channel Improvements $9,500,181 City of New Orleans Elevation Project $11,257,052 Livingston Parish Elevation and Acquisitions $11,899,733 JCK-20 Lively Bayou Upstream Detention $19,352,937 Diversion Culvert and Detention Pond $20,202,674 St. John the Baptist Parish Elevation Project $27,133,131 Gretna Green Distributed Green Infrastructure Network $51,832,825 Latest News Drone video shows moment missing 10-year-old found in Louisiana woods Ascension Parish mom who lost home during Hurricane Francine asks for assistance from FEMA Trump suspect charged with attempted assassination, case lands in Cannon's court See how much garbage, recycling fees in Zachary will increase Man who staked out Trump at golf course charged with attempting an assassination
