BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Some Louisiana residents who have a public library card will soon be able to explore state parks or historic sites for free. The Check Out Louisiana State Parks pilot program, which is set to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 1, will offer a day pass to any state park or historic site in Louisiana to residents who have a public library card in select parishes, according to the State Library of Louisiana. Residents also can check out a Geaux Explore backpack, which contains binoculars, a compass, a magnifying glass, outdoor ethics cards and guides to Louisiana birds, wildlife, trees and wildflowers. "The pass permits one vehicle and its passengers to enter the park. However, it does not provide access to cabins, campgrounds, or other programs while at the park. The pass is not valid for overnight stays," according to the admission rules on the State Library of Louisiana website. Looking for a getaway?
