It’s no secret that we live in one of the most divisive times in American history throughout the political landscape. Dividing lines are drawn and oftentimes people refuse to cross those lines. There is very little bend as a consequence; opposing viewpoints can be so embittered as to make people say or do things they shouldn’t Like many campaign seasons prior to this one, we’re hearing of instances — luckily few so far — of people taking campaign signs from other people’s property at night and either hiding them or simply discarding them somewhere else. The reason is simple — the sign-stealer disagrees with what the other side agrees with. The one thing that we all have to remember is we don’t get a say in other people’s beliefs or viewpoints. We can have discussions and we most assuredly will have disagreements, especially when politics is the focus. Regardless of the reasons for these disagreements and differences in viewpoints, it’s paramount to remember that you don’t have the right to go onto other people’s property to steal or vandalize. Never mind the direction you think the country or its politics should go, the person with a political sign on their private property has as much right to their own support as you have to yours. To willingly trespass and attempt to impede those thoughts by the aforementioned stealing and vandalizing is petty and you are a lower person for doing so. Politics in America is not going to get fixed any time soon, but the least we can do is go about our days agreeing to disagree and let it go at that. Please stay away from other people’s property. It’s stealing — no more, no less — and even if you think you are doing the good work of your party, whichever one it may be, you are doing nobody any favors by taking such a low road.
