The incident began with a call to Austin 911 around 10:59 p.m. about a man, later identified as 59-year-old Franklin Earl Miller, who was attempting to break into a business at 1724 West Anderson Lane, according to police. The caller also said Miller appeared to have a gun on him.

When officers arrived on the scene, they attempted to de-escalate the situation and tried to get Miller to comply with officers' commands for around 14 minutes, according to police. That included police telling him to put his firearm down.
Bodycam video shows where Miller raised his gun and pointed it at officers, and that is when officers discharged their department-approved firearms. Life-saving measures were then performed on Miller immediately after, according to police.
APD released one 911 audio file, one police radio traffic audio file, bodycam footage from Jauregui and patrol car dash camera from Browne, the release said Tuesday.
