ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Rochester mother has been sentenced to a total of 27 years in prison after she was convicted of killing her son. Bryasia Love pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault last May after the death of her one-year-old son A'Mias Love. She was supposed to be sentenced earlier this month, but it got postponed. On January 19, 2023, Love called the police saying A'Mias was unresponsive. Officers arrived at her Joseph Avenue apartment and found the baby with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he died days later. Investigators determined this was not a medical assault, but instead was an assault. They said A'Mias had multiple skull fractures, bruises, a laceration on his head and his liver, and eye damage. They also learned his two-and-a-half-year-old sister had bruises all over her body. Love's family was in court Tuesday morning and were shaken during the sentencing. The defense said Love's hard life justified a short sentence — saying she experienced abuse and trauma from her family growing up. The judge called A'Mias's death "preventable" and said Love was not truthful with police or doctors. Love's family told her as she was leaving "Love you too... God knows the truth." Love was initially charged with murder, which she pleaded not guilty to. She eventually pleaded guilty to the manslaughter and assault charges.
