(KRON) – The San Mateo County Sheriff, Christina Corpus, and her colleagues have gone back and forth for weeks, including firings, hirings, investigations and allegations regarding discrimination, misconduct and abuse of power. On Sunday night, Corpus held a press conference demanding that the county and Board of Supervisors open an investigation against the county's top leader executive officer Mike Callagy. Corpus accused Callagy of retaliation, abuse of power, sexual discrimination and bullying.  A toxic work environment investigation has been ongoing for the sheriff’s office.   Oakland police union calls Thao’s unhoused removal order ‘last-minute political stunt’ County Supervisor Ray Mueller suggested that the recent firing of Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan was due to him taking part in the investigation.  Hours after Sunday’s press conference, the board of supervisors responded to the sheriff saying they would take appropriate action. Callagy rejected the sheriff's claims of creating a hostile work environment and that he has been with the county for 41 years. Callagy also said he is happy to do an open investigation.  County Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller said, “Unless proven otherwise, the Board will remain united in its full faith and trust in [Callagy’s] leadership." Corpus responded, “It sends a clear message: When you raise a complaint in San Mateo County as a woman, you will be dismissed.”
