Central Current is getting ready for its busiest fall season yet: on top of preparing election coverage and planning our goals for next year, we are launching our first ever public event series – Current Conversations.Supported by a generous $10,000 grant from The UpMobility Foundation, Central Current’s “Current Conversations” series will provide an accessible public forum for journalists, public figures, and CNY residents to gather and discuss critical community issues. Covering topics like public housing, economic development, arts and culture, local elections, and more – Central Current will host interactive panels where members of the public can hear directly from decision-makers and ask questions of their own.Current Conversations will continue through the spring of 2025, with the first two taking place this year:“Reimagining Public Housing” – an analysis of the East Adams Redevelopment Project featuring Syracuse Housing Authority, the city of Syracuse, Blueprint 15, and the NYCLU on October 7th from 5 – 6:30 in the Salt City Market Community Room. Reserve a seat “Strengthening Local News” – a listening session hosted by Central Current staff inviting residents to discuss information needs, consumption habits, and attitudes towards local media. To be held at The Dunbar Center on November 18th from 5 – 6:30 pm. These events are free and invite readers like you to engage with journalism “off the page”. While our written articles will always be the bedrock of our news reporting, we are excited to explore new ways to keep Central New Yorkers connected and informed. The post Central Current launches event series, earns $10,000 grant appeared first on Central Current.
